Is Michio Kurihara officially considered a member yet? Even though Rainbows and Cloud Chamber were "Boris with Michio Kurihara", Michio Kurihara has played with them on everything since then and is pretty much a staple of their live lineup for the last couple of years. Does anyone know one way or another if he's actually a member now, or if he's just a semi-permanent guest musician they have while sort of maintaining the 'power trio' image? 209.136.161.135 (talk) 19:05, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what the band thinks, but I noticed that Variations is credited to "Boris", not "Boris with Michio Kurihara", even though Variations features old songs re-recorded with Michio. I think he's definitely a permanent member of the band now but I don't know if the other three have made any public statements about it. Schrödinger (talk) 19:58, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've also edited on Wata doing vocals. Since she sings lead vocals on at least three songs, it doesn't seem appropriate to just say "lead vocals on Rainbows". Also, she does backing vocals on a lot of their songs, so I added that. 75.0.68.187 (talk) 02:45, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I saw them in Vancouver a couple days ago and Michio was along on the tour. Musically speaking, he's entirely integrated. Tim Bray (talk) 07:38, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That is pretty cool. By the way, thank you for adding the pictures to the article. Backtable Speak to meconcerning my deeds. 08:03, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    • Someone needs to sight a source for the part about them not using illicit substances.

Does anyone have ANY info on the band other than discography-related stuff?
Cos we're missing...

  1. Where in Japan they live/formed
  2. Any biographical info whatever
  3. How they formed, met
  4. Any comments from the band

I'm going to begin scowering the net for interviews... in the meantime, feel free to add whatever you find. References are good...Thing which solomon overlooked 15:47, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Boris Logo.png

[edit]

Image:Boris Logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:53, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Atsuo's English

[edit]

It's stated under the Members section that Atsuo is considered the "leader" of the band because he speaks English well. However, it's noted in almost every interview I've seen with him that he has to use a translator because his English is so poor. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Atsuo does not speak English very well, but it seems he understands it well enough; Atsuo can understand and answer, albeit with limited English, questions regarding Boris' albums and that type of thing. However for full-blown conversations, Wata takes the lead as Boris' resident English speaker.82.18.49.148 14:25, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE the BOSS FEEDBACKER:

[edit]

The Setup sentence regarding this pedal was total speculation. Neither Wata nor Takeshi have this device on their boards. Please refrain from invention when contributing to encyclopedic entries. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.105.174.215 (talk) 05:24, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure of this? I am almost 100% I saw a Boss Feedbacker at a Boris gig in Sheffield, UK Last year. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vicissitudo (talkcontribs) 13:59, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you did...(I am definately not saying you're lying, dude)...but: (a) it is not a crucial tool for their sound, which is what the sentence suggested; (b) I have likewise seen the band play live and this stompbox was no-where to be seen; (c) enthusiasts at various sites which list the pedalboards they witness at shows have questioned their use of this pedal; (d) the Inoxia/official site generously lists the rigs of each member. The Super Distortion Feedbacker is absent, which seems a little strange for something meant to be such an important part of their sound, don't you think? There are, however, a number of echo units present (Roland, Mirano, Kastam), and also amps certainly more capable of the task than that pedal!; and (e) I find the whole idea that the album feedbacker was named after that pedal a little dubious. I have definately never ever heard this from any member. You really have to cite this. It just sounds like speculation and nothing more. I think it is more likely that the title alludes to anything, or anyone, invoking feedback, in general. Of course, I too am meerly speculating and nothing more. But I seriously doubt such influence from such a pedal. Peace. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.18.34.5 (talk) 23:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you 100% on all of that. I haven't got anything to do with the mention of the Feedbacker on the page and, like you, I haven't really heard that inspiration for the album name came from the pedal from anywhere apart from this wiki. I was merely contributing that I'm almost sure there was a Boss Feedbacker on one of the members pedalboards at a gig last year. It shouldn't be mentioned in the article. Mabuta no Uta should be Mabuta no Ura?

[edit]

I've got the CD right here and the katakana clearly says: マブタノウラ 128.255.191.236 (talk) 23:21, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's listed at Mabuta no Ura - I don't see it listed as Mabuta no Uta anywhere. BeastmasterGeneral 14:17, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This site also says that it's "mabutanoura". = ∫tc 5th Eye 18:02, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Blender?

[edit]

IMO Blender do not have enough journalistic credibility to be worth mentioning in an article such as this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.5.188.169 (talk) 23:46, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

TrebleZine

[edit]

I don't think TrebleZine should be used as a source. According to their talk page in their previous link, they state that "Though it started out as a casual group of friends posting thoughts on some of their favorite records, it evolved into a professional, legitimate site very shortly thereafter, " and "f you’d like to join our close-knit group of music-obsessed, pop culturally thirsty Treble contributors, we’re always looking for fresh talent and new perspectives. To apply, send an e-mail with writing samples and a list of recent and all-time favorite albums and/or songs to: editor@treblezine.com. Please note: we are not in a position to pay writers at the moment. You will, however, have access to a lot of free stuff, including music and entrance to live shows and whatnot, but this is a small site run by passionate people without corporate backing. We’ll open up a bottle of champagne the minute we’re able to remove this disclaimer.". It appears they are just a group of non-published fans. Should this be removed? Andrzejbanas (talk) 14:19, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it was just removed. So unless there are other suggestions, we'll leave it that way I guess. Andrzejbanas (talk) 18:25, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox genres

[edit]

User:Andrzejbanas I'd say experimental music and doom metal are obvious choices, because the vast majority of the other genres they have been associated with are subgenres or fusion genres of these. Hardcore and psychedelia/psych rock are the only ones that evade this categorization, which is why I chose them to top off the maximum of 4 genres as recommended by Template:Infobox_musical_artist#genre.--MASHAUNIX 13:19, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah yeah. I don't even disagree with you that much, but its not really for us to pick and choose which genres fit, but we can at least come to a conclusion on how to handle which genres probably are best representative from sources. I'm not a big fan of having a "Style" section of where its just "They have been described as blah blah and containing elements of blah blah blah blah and blah" as it does not really help a user understand the sound (whether it changes over time, how their approach to it is, etc.). I generally try to prefer to use sources that go into detail of why bands fit into a genre or explain how one genre is more prominent etc than others or if their sound changed for an album or two or changes per live show (which is the case for Boris.) I agree with the infobox music standards to only include four, but I think we have to be careful how to approach it. What do you think? Andrzejbanas (talk) 13:31, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you, I just wanted a quick way to clean up the overstuffed infobox. It would be an important improvement to the article to outline how their sound has transformed with a focus on techniques etc. over genre tags but I don't have the time to do that right now. What would you currently propose for the infobox genres?--MASHAUNIX 14:02, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
